Our geotechnical engineering practice works with public and private clients throughout the entire lifecycle of a project. Our work has included transformative environmental programs for coastal resiliency and green stormwater infrastructure; new public schools, college buildings, affordable housing, and sports facilities; renewable energy facilities; and major transportation and infrastructure improvement projects. AKRF will be hiring a geotechnical engineer to continue investing in the continued growth and success of our practice.


We are seeking entry-level Geotechnical engineers with up to 2 years’ experience.

 

Prospective applicants must have either internship or academic experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Providing geotechnical oversight and logging of geotechnical explorations (borings, test pits, CPTs);
  • Assist in developing laboratory and field testing programs;
  • Assist in developing engineering analyses for slope stability, settlement and consolidation estimates, deep foundation design (compressive, uplift, and lateral capacities), mat foundation design, ground surcharging, and ground improvement techniques (soil grouting, ground freezing, etc.), and soil liquefaction;
  • Assist in preparing engineering reports, including the evaluation of collected field and laboratory results, preparation of figures and drawings;

 

Applicants are required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (a Master’s Degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus), as well as a current Engineer-In-Training Certificate (or the ability to obtain the EIT certificate within 6 months of hire).  Applicants with previous internship experience in geotechnical engineering is a plus.

Applicants should have good writing and analytical skill and be able to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment. Please be aware that some fieldwork is required. Applicants may be required travel to work sites in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and New Jersey, with work being performed Monday through Friday and the possibility of occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work. Applicants with OSHA 10-hr or 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus. Work authorization is required.

 

Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.  Knowledge and experience using commercial geotechnical software (e.g., APile, LPile, WEAP, Slide) and other advanced modelling programs a plus.

 

Compensation will range from $65,000-$85,000.
